B.Arch. (Hons)
B.App. Science in Environmental Design
Certificate of Business Coaching

Marcus has 20 years experience in the architecture profession, having worked as a designer, communicator and thinker at Melbourne architecture practice WBA, and for Cox Architects and Planners. As a student he worked as a model-builder for the late, great Philadelphia School architect Aldo Giurgola at Mitchell Giurgola Thorp [MGT], the designer of New Parliament House in Canberra.

In his time in practice, Marcus has consulted for various departments of the Victorian State Government, and has assisted numerous Councils across Melbourne, in Regional Victoria and interstate. Marcus is known for his focus on design, clear thinking and masterplanning, and has also been heavily involved in architectural communications and education throughout his career. For a ten-year period following his graduation with Honours from the RMIT Architecture degree in 1998, Marcus taught house design to students of architecture at RMIT University, where he has also acted as an external course moderator and frequent guest design critic.

In addition to his architectural and teaching work, Marcus has written for journals in Australia and internationally since 2001. His articles and reviews have appeared in Artichoke, the Journal of the Design Institute of Australia;  in Houses magazine; Architecture Australia; Victorian Architect Magazine;  Landscape Architecture Australia; Azure Magazine (Canada) and Urbis (New Zealand).

In service to these publications he has reviewed dozens of architectural and interiors projects, and has interviewed scores of Australia's leading designers, business people and architects. Marcus’ articles, reviews and essays have appeared in print 75 times in journals globally in the last decade, and about that times again from the earlier period between 2001 and 2009.

Patrick Hurley

Associate

M.Arch (QUT)
Bachelor of Design (QUT)

Originally from Toowoomba in Queensland, Patrick
brings to Baumgart Clark knowledge of climatically responsive design, which is heavily based on sustainable passive design methodologies. Pat works closely with Directors at Baumgart Clark Architects to deliver a wide range of projects in a proactive and professional manner.

Using professional BIM software (REVIT), Patrick manages the office documentation delivery process, while mentoring staff in the practical implementation of BIM to create a streamlined documentation process with sub consultants. Revit software offers great advantages over 2-dimension computer aided drawing, allowing us to explore the 3- dimension implications of our design decisions in real time.

Patrick has a background in major construction projects based in Queensland, which utilised both his design

skill and his knowledge of construction management. This experience has resulted in a pragmatic approach
to design which is founded on constructability, but focused on achieving design outcomes.

Patrick has worked on a range of project types and has gained experience in all project stages from initial briefing, site investigation, design development, through to contract administration.
